Newmarket Ringette Tournament 2014
Submitted By Shawn Linton on Thu 02 20, 14
Newmarket & District Ringette Association is known for running an excellent tournament and this year thanks to our Tournament Committee and Volunteers we raised the bar. Shawn and I would like to thank everyone for taking time from their busy schedules to assist in making the 7th annual “Ignite the Ice” Ringette tournament, our best one yet.Organizing our “Ignite the Ice” tournament requires dedicated Committee leaders and we have 2 of the best, Jeff Smithson and Cheri Randall.
Jeff and Cheri took the role head on and implemented several great new ideas that separated “Ignite the Ice” tournament from others. Special thanks to Carolyn Haskins, Tournament Chair for past 5 years, for helping Jeff and Cheri with an easy transition. Great Job Jeff and Cheri.Sue Ranta, our ORA and Score2Stat Liaison, was glued to her computer verifying information was accurate and posted in a timely manner. No tournament is perfect and ours is no exception, but Sue played a vital role resolving any issues and ensuring resolution complied with ORA. Thanks Sue!Alanna Jarvis, who managed our Volunteers and implemented a new electronic Volunteer sign up process. This is one of the more challenging roles and Alanna was cool, calm, and collected leading into tournament and throughout the weekend. Having volunteered for several games I can truly say it was a seamless process. Thanks AlannaDave McFadden, the man tasked with organizing the Referees and resolving any officiating issues. It’s a no win situation as any call made will upset one team and excite the other. Can’t say thank you enough. The difficult task of scheduling 50+ teams within a 3 day period belonged to Carolyn Haskins. Job well done! To our Volunteers, “Ignite the Ice” is not possible without you. Whether behind the registration table, “in the box” running game clock, shot clock or game sheet you acted in a positive and professional manner at all times and visiting Associations made a point of approaching Shawn and I and passing along their thanks. Amy Garrett who managed vendors, and prize tables. Once again our prize baskets were top notch and people raved on the variety. Monitoring our younger players while they sold 50/50 tickets is no easy feat but no problem for Amy. Great JobNormally we avoid singling out Volunteers however an exception is warranted this yr. Claude “Mr. Shot Clock” Marleau and his lovely wife, Yvonne volunteered for 25+ games between them. Claude and Yvonne could be seen travelling from one game to the next always smiling and willing to assist. Their goodwill gesture was nicely rewarded as Claude won the Spa basket and Yvonne won Digital picture frame.Lastly to our Players, walk with your heads held high as you represented NDRA very very well. It was a roller coaster of emotions for Newmarket teams, but all your hard work this season is paying big dividends. We are all very proud of how you represented NDRA on and off the ice. Congratulations to U12B and Open 18+ B for finishing 2nd in their respective divisions.Sincerely,Shawn Linton Lui De DominicisPresident Vice Presdient
