Thank you to all our terrific volunteers
The 12th Annual Ignite The Ice tournament was a great success this weekend, and it's thanks to all of the families who came out to volunteer so we can continue to be excellent hosts. There are volunteers in so many capacities, from the off-ice officials, to families handling the registration room, raffle room, Rink-O, 50/50 draw, basket builders and everything else, thanks so much!
Special mention goes to those who were at the rink from dawn to dusk every day - Georgina Drikos-Walters, Jeff Smithson, Kim Owen, Michelle and Shawn Linton, Alanna Jarvis and Dave McFadden handling the referees.
This year we encouraged all individuals and teams to volunteer as many hours as they could with an incentive. The individual who contributed the most hours was Coach Kim Owen, taking home the $25 prize. The winner of this year's $100 team prize is the U19 team. Thanks to all of you for making this year's tournament great! Special mention should go out to one of our newer families in our Learn to Play Program who took the jump and joined in the Registration room. The future of our Tournament depends on our younger families stepping up to help out.
We hear very often from our guests that they enjoy coming to Newmarket because everyone is so friendly, they love our Magna Center, and the tournament runs smoothly. As this tournament is our Association's major annual fundraiser, the more teams we host, the more funds we have to support extra ice time and instructors to improve our game!
Below is a break down of all the hard work put in by all teams and their families and shows how many hours are needed to make a tournament successful, not including the preparation before the tournament, the behind the scenes during the tournament and all the wrap up paperwork that goes on after the tournament. These hours do not even cover the time put in by our Referee in Chief and his team of referees and evaluators.
