Town of Newmarket releases COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements
Submitted By Alyssia Byers on Tue 09 21, 21
NDRA has just received the below statement from the Town of Newmarket. Please read it carefully and completely and contact anyone on the Board Directors if you have any questions.

September 21, 2021 Release from the Town of Newmarket

Will the Town be confirming vaccination status?

o   Yes, beginning September 22nd, Town Staff will be confirming vaccination status at the screening desks in accordance with the Provincial Regulation

o   Reminder, the town’s pre-screening process (green check mark) still needs to be completed by everyone, of all ages, who enters a facility. By following this link COVID SCREENING

o   We recommend having paper copies of vaccine receipts as they can be read more quickly than on a phone.  This will speed up the screening process.

·       How are we going handle medical and religious exemptions?

o   Individuals who cannot receive the vaccine due to medical exemptions will be permitted entry with a valid doctor’s note.  This will be accepted until the medical exemptions can be integrated as part of the Province’s digital vaccine certificate. We expect this system to launch October 22nd.

o   Religious exemptions are only applicable to wedding services, rites, ceremony or funeral service.  Therefore, there is no religious exemption to use a recreation facility without being fully vaccinated.

Update to Vaccination Requirements, Specific to Town of Newmarket Facilities

This afternoon, our Council decided that as of November 1st, everyone 12 and older who enters a Town of Newmarket facility must be fully vaccinated.  As of that date, this will exceed the provincial requirements (at the time of this email) by eliminating exemptions for athletes (and coaches, volunteers etc.).  Simply put, it means that anyone aged 12 and up must be fully vaccinated to enter or have proof of a medical exemption.

This decision will affect all facility users, not only residents of Newmarket.  For example, competitors (12 and older) and their coaches/volunteers from another town will need to be fully vaccinated.  This shift will result in a safer environment for participants and spectators.
